ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE
Opportunities exist in the following areas:
Cytokines, Stem Cell Transplantation, Diagnostic Imaging, Radiation Oncology, Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Leukemia, Opthamology, Clinical Cancer Prevention, Division of Cancer Medicine - Phase I Program, General Internal Medicine (Emergency Center and Ambulatory Treatment Center), Neuro Oncology, Pediatrics.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Conducts comprehensive health assessments, identifies normal/abnormal health characteristics, develops treatment plans, initiates appropriate care, and continuously evaluates care outcomes. May also perform delegated functions under the supervision of the physician, e.g. differential diagnosis, use of prescriptive authority, and/or treatment of a variety of human responses throughout the wellness to illness spectrum according to practice guidelines, protocols or standing orders. Uses judgment to work autonomously as defined by the nurse practice act, or to collaborate with the healthcare team to manage client care throughout the continuum of care and in a variety of settings. Serves as a clinical resource, utilizing advanced nursing knowledge and critical thinking skills to act as interdisciplinary consultant and client advocate. Provides nursing, education and counseling services to individuals, families, and groups, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention as well as the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic disease. Accepts accountability for outcomes in health care. Promotes quality health care through integration of current research into practice.
MARGINAL OR PERIODIC FUNCTIONS:
Participates in professional activities (research, presentations, publications, etc.); other duties as required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Required: Master's Degree in Nursing. Graduate education and related Board of Nurse Examiner (BON) authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and/or patient population.
EXPERIENCE: Required: Two (2) years clinical nursing.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Required: All of the following:
Written authorization from the State of Texas BON to function as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas BNE.
Failure to obtain APN recognition in accordance with guidelines from the State of Texas BON , OR to obtain limited prescriptive authority (if required), will result in termination of employment.
