A rapidly expanding and technically progressive Acute Care Hospital (Level 2), is seeking to add a Permanent, full-time EM RN / Emergency Medicine Registered Nurse - One (1) year RN experience is required. ACLS obtained within 6 months of starting. PALS obtained within 1 year of starting. Certification in specialty area is preferred but not required. * LOCATED in the center of New York State, the City of Syracuse is in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region near Lake Ontario and Lake Oneida. A short distance from Rochester, Albany, Canada, the St. Lawrence River, the Adirondack Mountains and the Thousand Islands. There is a large selection of year round sports which includes many snow skiing and summer resorts and many tournament class golf courses. There is a Casino with regular scheduled Las Vegas quality shows and concerts. This metro area has 156k people living in the city and 456k in the county. There is an international airport with direct jet service to most major cities in the US. High quality education available. There is a large selection of inexpensively priced private schools. Some schools, both private and public, are nationally renowned for their academics and sports programs. There many colleges and universities in the region with Division One ranked football, basketball & lacrosse programs. The community is ethically diverse with many churches of varied denominations, synagogues, temples and mosques. There are private theater groups, museums, a symphony orchestra, many good restaurants to choose from and a regional IMAX Theater and Science Center. The job market is high tech in nature with health care research, a teaching hospital, a large pharmaceutical manufacturer and many engineering companies such as Welch Allen and Lockheed Martin to name a couple. There are many highways and very low traffic congestion. There is a rapidly expanding regional shopping mall located in the heart of the city. The region has many rolling hills and lakes. * COMPENSATION ranges from $42.6k for New Grads and up to $65.2k with up to 15 years of experience. Evening shift differential is $3.50 per hr. and night shift differential is $5.25 per hour.
* JOB TYPE is Permanent/Retained Employee, Full-time.
* WORK SCHEDULE: 36 hours per week. Night shift 7p-7:30a, rotating holidays and every other weekend.
* LICENSE and EDUCATION ASN/BSN. CPR. NY RN license.
* JOB DESCRIPTION:
-Initiate and implement all phases of the nursing process, including addressing psychological needs of patients and identifying cultural differences in planning for their care.
-Provide safe nursing care to assigned patients reflective of the medical-nursing regimen.
-Document all information relevant to patient care in the patient care record.
-Administer prescribed medications in accordance with policies and procedures.
-Provide patient/family teaching related to the ongoing medical-nursing regimen and in preparation for discharge.
-Communicate with patients and families in a professional, therapeutic and courteous manner.
-Demonstrate his/her practice reflective of the understanding of the age appropriate/developmental needs specific to their respective patient population.
-Assess assigned patient and unit environment on a continual basis to determine overall needs.
-Assign nursing care to staff in accordance with patient/unit needs and personnel capabilities and qualifications.
-Direct, supervise and evaluate nursing care provided to patients reflective of identified problems, needs and goals.
-Consult with nurse manager/supervisor on staffing needs for next shift as well as interdepartmental problems of ongoing or critical nature.
-Effectively communicate comprehensive review of current shift and actual or potential needs / problems.
-Maintain knowledge necessary to perform in a current, clinically sound manner.
-Participate in unit activities which support unit function and overall hospital philosophy and goals.
-Assist in orientation of new personnel.
-Participate in annual evaluation of self.
-Other duties as assigned by their supervisor, manager or director.
-Provide patient/family teaching related to the ongoing medical/nursing regimen and in preparation for discharge.
-Demonstrate practice reflective of the understanding of the age appropriate/developmental needs specific to their respective patient population.
-Must have full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
-Must be able to stand and walk for extensive periods of time.
-Must be able to occasionally lift, carry and push items weighing up to 50 pounds. -Must have normal range vision & hearing/use of corrective device fine.

Benefits are available after completion of the 90 day probationary period for both full-time and part-time employees. Vacation, sick time, and personal time are pro-rated based on hours worked for part-time employees.

* VACATION TIME: Full-time and part-time employees are eligible to use accrued vacation time after 1 year of service and accruals are based on hours worked. Part-time employees are eligible for prorated vacation benefits based on hours worked. Full-time employees accrue up to 80 hours in the first year of employment.
* PERSONAL TIME: Upon completion of the probationary period, full and part-time employees begin to accrue personal time at a rate of 8 hours for every 693.33 hours worked to a maximum of 24 hours in any rolling 12 month period.
* SICK TIME: After 1,040 hours worked, employees earn up to eight hours of sick time for every 173.33 hours worked to a maximum annual benefit of 96 hours. Employees can accumulate up to a maximum of 480 hours of sick leave.
* PAID HOLIDAYS: 12 paid holidays (or the equivalent of 96 hours) including New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas, and six floating holidays (prorated for new and terminating staff).
* BEREAVEMENT TIME: Full-time and part-time employees may take up to three days for the death of an immediate family member. An additional two days may be taken in the event of the death of the employees spouse, domestic partner or child.
* JURY DUTY : Full-time employees only are paid their full base-rate salary to serve as jurors to a maximum of 10 scheduled workdays per year. Part time employees will be paid on a pro-rated basis.
* MILITARY LEAVE: Full-time employees only who are in the National Guard or Reserves are paid the difference between their base-rate wages and their military pay for mandatory annual military reserve training duty.
* HEALTH INSURANCE: For new employees, benefits are available the first of the month following 90 days of employment. A summary of the medical plans available to employees with the current premiums are available upon request.
* HOSPITAL DISCOUNT: Employees receive a 25% discount on their gross bill for inpatient and outpatient services performed at the hospital.
* VISION PLAN: For new employees, vision benefits are available the first of the month following 90 days of employment if signed up for within ten days of orientation.
* DENTAL PLAN: For new employees, dental benefits are available the first of the month following 90 days of employment if signed up for within ten days of orientation.
* LIFE INSURANCE (Group Term): Full-time employees receive life insurance benefits that equal one, two, or three times their annual salary, depending on the salary, to a maximum of $120,000.
* DISABILITY INSURANCE: SHORT TERM DISABILITY: Disability leaves are available after four weeks of employment. A voluntary short term disability plan,"Supplemental SHORT TERM DISABILITY", can be purchased through the Service Employees Benefit Fund. The benefit provides additional protection for non-work related illness, injury or surgery. The Voluntary LONG TERM DISABILITY Insurance Plan provides 24-hour protection against the loss of income that could result if a disability prevents an employee from working and earning a living.
* HEALTH CARE REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT: Employees may elect to contribute up to $2,500 each calendar year to the Health Care Reimbursement Account to be used for uninsured medical, dental, and vision expenses.
* DEPENDENT CARE REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT: Employees may elect to contribute up to $5,000 each calendar year to the Dependent Care Reimbursement Account.
* PENSION: The hospital provides a fully-paid pension program for all vested employees. Upon completion of five Years of Service, an employee becomes vested. The pension benefit for those who retire on or after January 1, 2006, is calculated as 1.85% of career earnings.
* TAX SHELTERED ANNUITIES (TSA) : Employees of the hospital have the opportunity to contribute a portion of their income, subject to tax code limits, to a Tax-sheltered Annuity (TSA). Contributions to the TSA, as well as interest accumulating in the TSA,
* RETIREE BENEFITS: Health Care Plan - Retirees who are less than 65 years old are eligible to continue participating in the medical plan they had prior to retirement (either single or family). The hospitals contributions for the medical coverage will be the same percentage it if contributing to an active employee enrolled in the same plan.
* TUITION AID: To be eligible for benefits through the Training and Upgrading Fund, you must be an 1199 SEIU union member, be a regular employee, either full-time or part-time and work at least 3/5th of a full time position and have completed at least one year of service.
* CONTINUING EDUCATION: $750 per year is available for seminars, workshops, etc. Prepaid tuition is also available through participating colleges.
