Are you looking for an exciting international career? Are you ready for independent practice in a unique setting? Would you like to travel and work in a variety of foreign health settings?

The U.S. Department of State is looking for individuals like you to serve as a Foreign Service Health Practitioner (FSHP) and provide primary health care to Diplomats and their families at American embassies around the world. Most positions are in the developing world where local medical facilities are limited many positions require travel within a specified geographic region. The FSHP provides primary care, health education, and acts as medical adviser to the U.S. diplomatic mission in the country of assignment. In addition they are responsible for occupational and environmental health issues.

Entry-level basic compensation ranges from $64,447 - $94,643 per year, with career earning potential up to $150,000 per year. In addition, overseas benefits include tax free housing for you and your family as well as an education allowance for school-age children. Both a Post (Hardship) Differential up to 35% above pay and a Danger Pay Allowance up to 35% above base pay may also be provided to compensate employees for service in places with difficult or dangerous living conditions. For assignments to areas that are more expensive than Washington, D.C., a Post (Cost of Living) Allowance is also provided to reimburse employees for any excessive costs for daily living expenses.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, currently licensed in a state or territory of the United States, have current national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant. Four years of patient care experience, with at least two years of recent NP/PA experience in family practice that includes pediatrics, Ob/Gyn and health promotion. Emergency or urgent care experience is a plus. Applicants must have evidence of ability to practice independently.
