Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Intern
This internship provides an opportunity to teach in the Adaptive Physical Education and Aquatics program at The New England Center for Children. The internship offers direct experience with school-aged children, teenagers and young adults with special education needs and mentorship from experienced APE teachers. You will practice direct planning and instruction in adaptive sports and exercise programming for NECC's students and teach a range of physical education skills in both the aquatics center and school gymnasium. The experience can include exposure to the IEP process from planning, development of goals and implementation of physical education learning strategies is provided using the MA Curriculum Frameworks as a guide.
Time Commitment/Availability:
- 10 - 30 hours a week for a minimum of 10 weeks
- Monday - Friday with some possibilities for evening or weekend special event hours.
When:
- Fall, Spring (Winter), or Summer term
Qualifications:
- Interest in physical education and special education
- Enrollment in a bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program
- Ability to swim in deep water and proficiently perform 4 basic strokes, tread water and float on front/back.
