Through our innovative Connected Care approach, we've created a network of experts across all pet and vet care services making it easy for our clients to give their pets the best lives possible.

We currently have 3 hospitals in the Atlanta area and looking for an experienced area medical director to help grow our hospitals.

We are currently offering up to a $100k sign on bonus to join our team!

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION:

The Area Medical Director Director is responsible for ensuring our veterinary centers provide quality medical care, exceptional customer service & business performance, through recruiting, supervising, & development of outstanding medical directors and associate veterinarians.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Supports the mission, vision, culture and policies of Destination Pet of complete care and well-being for pets
  • Drive a successful and growing Medical Director & veterinarian team through hiring, recruiting, referrals & retention. Ensure the delivery of an exceptional onboarding and mentorship experience for Medical Directors and associate veterinarians
  • Develop & lead the Medical Director & veterinarian team to ensure the care delivered in our hospitals meets industry, regulatory, DP and AAHA standards
  • Serve as a mentor to staff, providing stability and leadership with the Hospital (s)
  • Provide medical director and associate veterinarians one on one development supporting quarterly production performance and coaching for improvement; uses monitoring of performance as an opportunity to communicate success to the team and to identify and feedback how business processes and procedures can be improved to work with and manage financial data
  • Is able to confidently manage conflict, deliver strong messages, when needed and address issues; aware of when to become involved in situations and able to manage 'change' effectively using consultation and feedback
  • Understands how people learn differently and helps tailor their development where appropriate, flexing style and methods
  • Endeavors to always deliver the highest standard of service and has a personal and brand reputation in the market for doing so
  • Meet regularly with Practice Manager (s) on weekly priorities and expectations and to review controllable costs (DVM and Support payroll, Inventory)
  • Play a significant part in the decision-making process and implementation of any new initiatives within their hospital (s) through critical awareness of knowledge issues clinically and operationally
  • Innovative and have a responsibility for developing & changing practice &/or services in a complex & unpredictable environment; takes time to plan effectively and considers a number of external and internal factors, suggesting solutions before problems occur
  • Leads from the front, consistent in their approach, always taking a positive approach, focusing on the outcome/result even when presented with obstacles and remains objective to role model positive behaviors
  • Participate in weekly operational conference calls
  • Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels
  • Have strong proven leadership abilities, strong mentoring and team building skills, excellent communication with colleagues and the referring community and possess a foundation of business skills to work alongside the Practice Manager to support the growing success of the hospital (s)
  • Work to enhance Destination Pet community standing and brand reputation
  • Actively participate in national, state and local veterinary associations
  • Fostering relationships with veterinary students and promoting externships in their hospitals


Clinical Focus:

  • Area Medical Director providing clinical, surgical and specialty responsibilities (60-80% of the time) with at least one non-clinical day scheduled each week
  • Examines, diagnoses, treats animals surgically or medically; basic surgical and dental skills required (spay, neuter, mass removal, dental extractions, etc.)
  • Operates medical equipment
  • Client communication about care, medical conditions and treatment
  • Prescribe medication


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) or equivalent foreign degree is required
  • Five years of clinical veterinary experience are required
  • Two years of hospital leadership experience are required
  • Two years of veterinary multi-location management experience preferred
  • Active, valid veterinary license in at least one state of responsibility, DEA license & USDA Accreditation are required. May be required to attain additional state licenses


REPORTING STRUCTURE:

  • Medical Directors will report up to the Area Medical Director of the hospitals they are supporting
  • In the event there is not a medical director, the Senior Medical Director will function in that role (to include hospital acquisitions)
  • Senior Medical Directors will report up to their Regional Veterinary Directors
