Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the strategic planning, content development/positioning and KPI strategy for assigned new and existing marquee and tier 1 level events for Optum Marketing; closely partnering with business marketing team members and event operation leads to bring the event objectives and vision to life through seamless execution. This will include oversight over work stream connectivity, and specific accountability to lead the end to end communications work stream. This leader will also have an overall accountability for marquee and tier 1 event performance, measurement and reporting for all assigned experiences
  • This is a position that will work across departments and teams through a strong focus on coordination and collaboration to offer creative event and positioning solutions to help achieve business goals and objectives. As such, it requires someone with demonstrated experience shaping and nurturing project teams and driving breakthrough execution through consensus building and leadership. The ideal candidate will be nimble, agile, and bring creativity and innovation in their approach to supporting key initiatives
  • This leader will also help establish corporate level content assets and define the strategy around leveraging assets across various channels and event experiences through the year. As such, the ideal candidate will have diverse experience that might include traditional brand / marketing / communications / event functions with a passion for project management and cross-functional teamwork
  • In this role you will be accountable for driving audience-specific and corporate level event strategy that aligns to Optum business/growth priorities and also reflects the interests of society and our target audience. The convergence of these thoughts will inform your work. You will collaborate to develop a standardized approach for our event strategy and help bring this to life in our key experiences, so we move to greater consistency in our execution and drive greater impact through alignment with overall marketing priorities
  • Role reports to the Senior Director of Event Strategy and owns assigned governance, internal event system and/or process management based on subject matter expertise

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Experiential Marketing Strategy
    • Provide audience-specific and corporate brand specific experiential marketing strategic leadership for as assigned marquee and tier 1 experiences
    • Partner to build the annual event process, calendar and related measurement and reporting activities
  • Partnerships
    • Develop strong strategic partnerships with marketing, event operations, creative and communications counterparts, key stakeholders and vendors to foster deep partnerships in leading the experiential marketing strategy or other strategic initiatives; effectively leverage our internal partnerships to enhance and expand the scope of our efforts and drive alignment
    • Partner closely with internal brand and event partners, external agency and related partners to align accurate content across all internal and external facing event elements and processes to ensure clear communication and connections are made and appropriate flow of information through all internal and external channels
  • Event & Project Management
    • Work closely with event project management and operations partners to help project-manage events including but not limited to, developing the end to end vision, planning all special activities held in conjunction with events including receptions, outings, tours, etc., communicate event status updates regularly to stakeholders, manage event database to assure real time event data tracking and reporting, attend events and provide onsite support as needed and juggle multiple events simultaneously with precision and attention to detail while continually identifying ways to improve processes to produce higher quality experiences
  • Brand Management
    • Proactively assess audience-specific graphic messaging and partner with brand marketing and event partners to develop new graphics per experience and/or in alignment to the latest brand campaign
    • Develop and/or leverage brand content and thought leadership work for integration across events or other strategic projects
  • Budget Management
    • Collaborate on the development and management of the event calendar budget and governance in partnership with business marketing and event partners to ensure execution of all experiential activities follow brand standards and land within budget
    • Continually identify, propose, and implement ways to cut costs and gain efficiency
  • Lead Development and Analytics
    • Manage event lead acquisition, processing, nurturing and follow-up to ensure that leads are properly managed
    • Monitor and analyze event performance against KPIs to make recommendations for future event participation
  • Miscellaneous Support
    • Support other internal event efforts (systems and/or processes) and/or ad hoc events at various points in the year as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Event Planning or related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in brand, communications and/or experiential marketing
  • Exceptionally able to project manage, multi-task and allocate/optimize resources, budget and timelines for projects big to small, strategic and tactical
  • Experience managing successful, diverse project teams and nurturing a positive culture rooted in core values
  • Proven ability to lead highly visible, complex projects with cross functional teams
  • Relationship management and ability to drive strategic partnerships
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise direction and executive facing proposals
  • Ability to set measurement criteria and ability to flex, adjust and optimize in order to hit set targets and achieve results
  • Ability to strategize and apply a sound understanding of business and financial measures
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, and adapt to/embrace change
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time on a national basis when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in event marketing strategy, leadership and planning
  • Understanding of Optum segmentation and audience profiles
  • Experience in and knowledge of health care strongly preferred
