Job Description
General Purpose
The exercise physiologist emphasizes exercise and preventive care to help patients recover from cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases with a goal of improving the overall health of the patient. Exercise physiologists develop fitness and exercise programs that help injured or sick patients recover. They are responsible for analyzing a patient's medical history to develop a risk assessment during exercise and to determine the best possible exercise and fitness regimen for the patient. The role performs fitness and stress testing with medical equipment and is responsible for analyzing the resulting patient data. Patient data may include blood pressure, oxygen usage, heart rhythm, and other key patient health indicators. This data is then used to develop exercise programs to improve patients' health.
Essential Duties
- Responsible for all duties involved in both exercise and pharmacologic cardiac testing
- Holter monitor set up and scanning
- Establish peripheral Intravenous (IV) access
- Perform EKG's as needed
- Responsible for administering intravenous medications for pharmacological stress testing
- Flexibility to full fill on call needs as required, may require weekend rotation
- Responsible for all duties in the cardiac rehabilitation environment
- Responsible for application of BLS/ACLS as needed
Job Requirements
General Requirements
• BLS (American Heart Association) • ACLS (American Heart Association) within 3 months of hire
Work Experience
Minimum one year experience in the scope of practice for an Exercise Physiologist or Exercise Science degree.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and decision-making skills • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment • Demonstrates ability to use the tools associated with an electronic medical record or program specific software required to perform the essential duties of the job.
