Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Chemical/Environmental Engineer with PFAS experience to join our team in Birmingham, AL. This full-time position is expected to support environmental investigation, industrial wastewater treatment (including remediation), and permitting projects, and will be working alongside and supporting task managers, technical experts, and project managers on multiple projects.

As a Chemical/Environmental Engineer, you will be responsible for site-specific feasibility studies, technology assessments, conceptual wastewater treatment designs, and all the documentation, calculations, evaluations, and data used in these estimates.

Role accountabilities:

  • Assisting with the development of design calculations, technical reports, permitting, detailed design and engineering plans and specifications, as well as construction administration for a variety of projects.
  • Researching feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications.
  • Providing technical analysis and support to a variety of PFAS technology demonstrations currently underway for the US Federal Government and industrial clients.
  • Supporting environmental field investigations for soil and groundwater impacts and the subsequent data analysis and report preparation for client projects.
  • Perform task management duties including budget tracking, project invoicing support, schedule maintenance, health and safety administration for projects, and/or other roject management support tasks.
  • Developing visual, graphical, and tabular summaries of environmental data and trends
  • Conducting project-related research (historical data, regulations, etc.)
  • Travelling (25%): assisting in the field with investigations and sampling, conducting pilots and full-scale remedial efforts, and participating in face-to-face client, technical, and other stakeholder meetings


Desired skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience with emerging contaminants and PFAS investigation in water
  • Experience with industrial wastewater, facility infrastructure design, and other industrial planning, design, permitting, and/or construction engineering activities
  • Strong focus on health and safety


Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Environmental Engineering or closely related field
  • EIT certification or PE license

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $68,187 - $112,509.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
