UNM Children’s Hospital
UNM Children’s Hospital stands as New Mexico’s only full-service children’s hospital, distinguished by its delivery of high-quality, compassionate care in over 40 pediatric specialties. The hospital features the state’s largest Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neonatal ICU, a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-accredited center, and a Pediatric Emergency Room, providing comprehensive services to children and families throughout the region.
Position Responsibilities
The Chief of Pediatric Pulmonology will lead a division of fellowship-trained pulmonologists, supported by a dedicated team of advanced practitioners, respiratory therapists, and nursing staff. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing clinical care pathways, with a commitment to remaining current with the latest literature in pediatric pulmonology.
- Collaborating with subspecialists to enhance patient care and foster an inclusive, collaborative division culture.
- Mentoring pediatric residents and faculty, ensuring excellence in education and training.
- Maintaining an active clinical practice in pediatric pulmonology while contributing to the academic mission of the institution.
Position Highlights
- Oversee the state’s only Cystic Fibrosis Center, which has recently secured additional funding for new initiatives and PharmD support.
- Lead a mission-driven program with outreach clinics throughout New Mexico, emphasizing equitable healthcare access for underserved populations.
- Engage with the Centralized Office of Research for Pediatrics, which provides a complete spectrum of support services for active clinical trials related to asthma, cystic fibrosis, and other pulmonary conditions.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Eligible to obtain state licensure(s) in New Mexico
- Board Certification in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine
- Experience in medical leadership
- Five years of clinical experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bronchoscopy experience
- Experience with statewide outreach programs
- Evidence of leadership roles in academic medicine
- Experience mentoring junior faculty
- Involvement in graduate and undergraduate medical education
- Research experience
- Experience with quality improvement initiatives
- Experience working at an accredited Cystic Fibrosis Center
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as experience working with broadly diverse communities
