Job Summary:

The Program Director, Physician Assistant Studies Program will serve as the academic officer of the program, and will be responsible for the effective day-to-day communication, program assessment and planning, fiscal management, and evaluation of faculty. The incumbent will serve to develop and implement the strategic plan, education, research and clinical education programs and will provide guidance and oversight through the initial and ongoing accreditation process. This includes the hiring of program faculty, recruitment of the student class, management of the budget and development of clinical affiliation agreements. This position reports to the Dean or designee of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The incumbent will receive academic rank as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

1. Serve as the chair and academic officer and administrator for the physician assistant program, representing the program at events within the university and the surrounding community. Oversee program planning, development, organization and administration.

2. Develop and manage, in collaboration with other stakeholders, the strategic planning process for the program.

3. Oversee fiscal management of the program.

4. Provide leadership throughout the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accreditation process; demonstrate knowledge and adherence to ARC-PA standards and policies.

5. Lead quality improvement processes, such as continuous programmatic review and analysis.

6. Oversee facilities and personnel planning for the program in consultation with the Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences or designee, the University Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, and other key stakeholders.

7. Work to build and expand relationships with regional academic health sciences institutions for the purposes of enhancing the academic standing of the program. Develop and establish collaborative relationships with the surrounding healthcare community.

8. Represent the University and the program at external health care events, including conferences, symposia, and other planning events within the local, regional and national communities.

9. Work closely with the Office of University Advancement to develop and maintain relationships with the philanthropic community for the purpose of obtaining scholarships, endowed faculty positions, equipment, and monetary donations to the program.

10. Coordinate marketing and communications planning and activity for the program.

11. Build and maintain relationships with the University's existing health sciences programs.

12. Supervise medical director, principal and instructional faculty and staff. Oversee faculty status review for the principal PA faculty of the College.

13. Teach within the program as per faculty contract.

14. Perform other leadership duties as requested by the Dean, the University Provost, or the President of the University.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A master's degree in physician assistant studies with current NCCPA certification. An DMsC., Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a related field preferred.

2. Licensed as physician assistant within the state of New Jersey.

3. Proven leadership ability in the field of physician assistant studies.

4. Substantial experience within higher education, including a minimum of three years of full-time higher education in a physician assistant program.

5. Knowledge of the physician assistant program accreditation process and familiarity with the details of experiential education and site establishment within the healthcare community.

6. Ability to locate and secure external funding for a College and programs of this nature.

7. Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and fostering empirical research.

8. A vision and interpersonal skills to build partnerships inside and outside the program in physician assistant studies, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and University-at-large.

9. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
