Position Details
Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
The College of Health Sciences at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) is pleased to invite qualified applications for a Principal Faculty position at the Clinical Associate/Full Professor rank (12-month appointment) in the proposed Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) Program. The Principal Faculty will report to the Program Director and work closely with other PA faculty, and staff to support the program's mission and maintain compliance with ARC-PA accreditation standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide student instruction and teach courses (didactic and/or clinical) as assigned by the Program Director or Assistant Program Director. Supervise students in didactic and/or clinical courses and activities. Assist with admission (e.g. application review, selection, and interviews). Assist in developing and coordinating course design and implementation within the didactic and/or clinical curriculum. Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of student performance. Provide academic counseling and advising of students. Participate in service to the department, college, University, and community. Perform other program and department level duties, as assigned. Assist in the evaluation process of the curriculum and the program. Assist in the development, review, and revisions (as necessary) the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program. Assuring the availability of remedial instruction for students.
The selected candidate will be responsible for administrative duties, including participating in the admission process, scheduling clinical rotations, and assisting the clinical team with program evaluation during the clinical phase. Duties will also include maintaining data and assessments in order to prepare reports for accreditation purposes. The faculty will be responsible for academic mentoring and advising of learners. Assist the Clinical Coordinator in delivering classroom learning experiences and clinical skills instruction on essential medical and clinical science topics, tailored to the individual's qualifications. Collaboration with the Director of the PA Program, Medical Director, and other principal faculty members will be necessary to manage the curriculum effectively and ensure high-quality instruction.
Educational Requirements for the Position
Physician Assistant with the following:
Master's degree from an ARC-PA accredited program. Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience. Current license or eligibility for licensing as a physician assistant in the State of Texas.
OR
Physician with the following:
Doctor of Medicine/Osteopathy with a full unrestricted MD license or eligibility to obtain such licensure in the State of Texas.
OR
Non-clinician Scientist or Health Professional with the following:PhD degree or higher in a health or science-related field.
Experience Required for the Position
All candidates should possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively as a team member. Prefer a candidate to have knowledge and the ability to comply with accreditation standards related to evaluation and assessment.

Maintain awareness of the PA profession and participate in service to the program, university, and the healthcare profession. The proposed MPAS Program at SHSU seeks to recruit and retain a faculty with various skills, expertise, knowledge, and backgrounds. The city of Huntsville is nestled in the East Texas Piney Woods and is centrally located on a direct route between Houston and Dallas. With a population of roughly 40,000 (excluding SHSU), Huntsville offers the simplicity of small-town life and easy access to surrounding larger cities including Conroe (where the future Health Professions Building (HPB) and College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) are located), The Woodlands (where the School of Nursing and The Woodlands Center is located), and Bryan/College Station. Full of Texas history and charm, this county seat is home to multiple museums, annual festivities, antique stores, year-round outdoor activities, vineyards, golf courses, lakes, and a beautiful state park. The HPB is an innovative facility scheduled for completion in January 2026, which will house graduate programs in Athletic Training, Dietetics, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies.
