Coding Specialist

Cass Health is seeking a detail-oriented, motivated Coding Specialist to join our revenue cycle team. In this role, you will assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes across a broad range of services, including inpatient, outpatient, rural health clinic (RHC), emergency department, and surgical encounters.

You'll collaborate closely with providers, clinical teams, and revenue cycle partners to ensure complete and compliant documentation, support accurate reimbursement, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts. This is an opportunity to be part of a high-performing, mission-driven organization with an engaged leadership team that values your expertise, invests in your professional growth, and supports long-term career development.

What You'll Do

You will assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on provider documentation for inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, surgical, and rural health clinic (RHC) services in a Critical Access Hospital setting. You will review medical records to ensure codes are supported by documentation and applied in accordance with official coding guidelines, Medicare regulations, and payer-specific requirements applicable to CAH and RHC reimbursement methodologies. In this role, you will identify and resolve coding-related edits, errors, and omissions prior to billing, and assist with coding corrections related to payer denials or claim rework as needed. You will monitor workqueues for incomplete or insufficient documentation impacting coding and escalate issues appropriately for clarification. You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and regulatory guidance affecting hospital and RHC coding, and apply that knowledge consistently in daily work.

What We're Looking For

A current coding certification is required, such as CPC, CCS, CCS-P, or an equivalent credential through AAPC or AHIMA. At least one year of healthcare coding experience is preferred. Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and medical terminology is essential, along with familiarity with EHR systems-Epic experience is preferred. Successful candidates bring exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a collaborative, team-focused mindset.
