Counselor (Family Life Services)

Diakon Family Life Services offers a range of counseling and behavioral health services to children, teens, families and adult individuals. Services are provided through counseling centers in Mechanicsburg, New Bloomfield, Lewisburg, Montoursville and Williamsport as well as within several public-school buildings. Specialized programs include family-based mental health services, provided in the community and in-home, addictions counseling, trauma-focused therapy and SPIN, a service designed to assist children and youths who have problematic sexual behaviors.

General Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a professional and supportive relationship with youth and their families as well as providing therapeutic interventions.
  • Acts as a liaison with youth, birth families, referring personnel, treatment providers, and others involved in the lives of children and youth.
  • Works cooperatively with case managers and other treatment providers to meet needs and goals, as established in the Treatment Plan and other supervision.
  • Conducts individual, couple, and/or family therapy sessions.
  • Childine and DHS FBI clearance results are required prior to beginning employment.


Education/Training: A bachelor's degree in human services is required; Master's degree in human services preferred.

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in related positions required.

ADA: Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, and lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.; visual and auditory skills.
