We are seeking an experienced Dental Assistant for an available contract opportunity to provide services for the inmates incarcerated at the United States Penitentiary Marion, located in Marion, Illinois.

Facility Information: The United States Penitentiary (USP) in Marion, Illinois, is a medium security facility housing male inmates and should be considered an FCI Medium. The facility also has an adjacent satellite prison camp that houses minimum security male offenders. USP Marion is located approximately 9 miles south of the city of Marion, 300 miles from Chicago, and 120 miles from St. Louis, Missouri. Judicial District: Southern Illinois
Work Schedule: The Dental Assistant will normally work 6 hours per day, 5 days per week, for a total of 30 hours per week. the 6 hours will be schedule daily, Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), normally between the hours of 7:00 am and 4:00 pm, with a 30 minute unpaid lunch period.
Description of Services (includes but it is not limited to):
Assists Dental Officer in dental in all chair-side duties and specialty sections: restorative, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthetics, and examinations. Assist in all patient related duties. Assist Dental Officer by preparing treatment room, dental instruments, essential materials, drugs and medications; passes instruments, retracts tissues, irrigates oral cavity, and operates aspirator; observes patients' responses, and assists patient for dismissal from Dental clinic; gives instructions for subsequent dental appointments; makes necessary entries on dental treatment records; prepares dental treatment room for next patient; assists in the treatment of emergency cases. Maintains dental equipment; cleans, sharpens, and sterilizes instruments; performs daily inspection of equipment, and makes minor repairs; reports defective equipment, or utilizes corrective action. Performs routine polishing of the clinical crowns of teeth; uses basic dental hand instruments, oral hygiene aids; prepares entries for patients' records. Takes radiographs of patients using standard dental radiographic equipment; obtains diagnostic quality periapical, occlusal, lateral, jaw, TMJ, and panographic radiographs; correctly positions patient and film and determines level of radiation intensity to minimize radiation exposure of patients; Performs and interprets four (4) quality assurances on a schedule basis on radiographic equipment; and is responsible for maintaining proper infection control procedures in radiographic techniques; and sterilizes contaminated biological waste of dental clinic several times a day.
Uniform requirements: The Dental Assistant must wear appropriate and professional attire at all times (scrub uniforms are approved). The Dental Assistant is prohibited from wearing khaki or green clothing of any type as this is the color clothing the inmate population wear.
Period of Performance: Effective from date of hire through 60 months.
Position Requirements/Qualifications
Education: The Dental Assistant shall possess specialty training from a licensed dentist and/or certification from an accredited Dental Assistant school. Training must include dental radiology and radiology safety.
Experience: Additionally, the applicant shall have a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Dental Assistant.
Life saving Certifications: The applicant must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association.
