Director Physical Security and Access Management

We are seeking a visionary and experienced Director, Physical Security & Access Management to lead the strategy, governance, and operations of our enterprise-wide physical security and access management programs.

As the Director, Physical Security & Access Management, you will provide strategic leadership for Valleywise Health's physical security, access control, and badging programs. You will establish and oversee system-wide security standards, policies, and governance frameworks that support patient safety, workforce security, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience.

Working closely with executive leadership and key stakeholders across the organization, you will ensure physical access is role-based, risk-informed, and consistently managed across all facilities. Your leadership will help balance open access to care with the security requirements of a complex healthcare environment.

What You'll Do

Strategic Leadership & Governance

• Develop and execute a comprehensive enterprise physical security and access management strategy.
• Establish policies, standards, and governance frameworks to strengthen security across all Valleywise Health locations.
• Drive long-term planning and continuous improvement initiatives that align with organizational priorities.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on security risks, trends, and mitigation strategies.

Security & Access Management

• Lead enterprise access control and badging programs, ensuring consistent, role-based access management practices.
• Oversee security technologies, access systems, and operational controls across multiple facilities.
• Ensure security processes effectively protect patients, workforce members, visitors, and critical assets.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to improve security and operational efficiency.

Risk Management & Compliance

• Monitor compliance with applicable healthcare security standards, regulations, and organizational requirements.
• Partner with leaders across the organization to identify, assess, and mitigate physical security risks.
• Support accreditation readiness and compliance efforts, including familiarity with DNV standards and healthcare security best practices.
• Develop and maintain security metrics, reporting, and performance measures.

Team & Stakeholder Leadership

• Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing security and access management team.
• Foster strong partnerships with clinical, operational, facilities, technology, and administrative leaders.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives that strengthen organizational safety, security, and business continuity.
• Manage resources, budgets, and priorities to deliver effective outcomes while maintaining operational excellence.

Annual Salary Range: $127,940.80 - $204,713.60

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in security management, information systems, criminal justice, public administration, facilities management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

• Eight (8) or more years of progressively responsible experience in physical security, with several years in a leadership or management role.
• Demonstrated experience leading enterprise physical security, access control, or safety programs.
• Experience in a healthcare, public sector, or highly regulated environment.
• Familiarity with DNV standards, healthcare security guidelines, and risk management practices.
• Experience overseeing multi-site security operations and access systems
• Strong knowledge of access control systems, role-based access models, and security governance.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with executive leadership and cross functional stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.

Certification/Licensure:

• Relevant professional certifications preferred (e.g., healthcare security or physical security leadership).

• Must be able to manage priorities in a dynamic environment and adapt to change quickly and positively.

• Must be able to work as a team member with peers, other managers, staff and senior leadership.
