Director, Vaccines Competitive Intelligence

The Global Competitive Intelligence (GCI) group works across divisions to bring an outside perspective into the organization. Among our primary responsibilities are the active monitoring and analyses of the external landscape and thereafter sharing meaningful insights and foresights with leaders and stakeholders. Our work primarily focuses on the activities of key competitors with an emphasis placed on early warnings of potential threats to our Company as well as possible opportunities for the company.

Position Description:

Director, Vaccines Global Competitive Intelligence

This Director-level individual is responsible for providing Competitive Intelligence (CI) leadership for vaccine areas that are rooted in a deep understanding of the external healthcare environment and our Company’s internal business.

The individual partners with key vaccines leaders to develop insights and recommendations that will help enhance global and regional strategies and decision-making in the context of competitive and evolving marketplace. The individual proactively facilitates the identification and prioritization of intelligence efforts critical to strategic planning and execution for key stakeholders, and provides direction for the design and refinement of intelligence plans. The individual proactively identifies and effectively communicates commercial and pipeline opportunities based on sound intelligence and insights.

The individual performs these functions independently. 

Primary activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure effective utilization of business acumen, scientific and medical understanding, and competitive intelligence across relevant divisions and functions, to provide unbiased and fact based competitive insights, benchmarking, and recommendations regarding Commercialization Strategies, Portfolio Prioritization and Sourcing, Research and Development Strategies, Corporate Development and Business Development & Licensing Initiatives

  • Propose, lead, design and conduct CI research and analyses, including multi-disciplinary CI work-shops/simulations, with the aim of shaping therapeutic area, product and pipeline strategies

  • Leverage critical thinking skills, data and digital technology, synthesize complex, disparate information to deliver clear, predictive insights and actionable recommendations

  • Make sound recommendations based on developed intelligence and impact on key strategies and tactics, and influence key decision makers to consider/adopt recommendations

  • In partnership with Business Development & Licensing (BD&L) professionals across our Company's divisions, support effective execution of deals, shape licensing strategies, and recommend Business Development & Licensing (BD&L) opportunities in vaccines

  • Act as the point person for CI input (e.g., competitive landscape and timelines, target product profile input, etc.) for vaccines leadership teams/committees, brand teams, product development teams, Business Development & Licensing (BD&L), and other strategic initiatives

  • Responsible for CI deliverables pertaining to his/her areas of responsibility

  • Rigorously apply our Company's standard of ethics and policy for all intelligence gathering.

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:   

  • B.A. or B.S.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Proven record of innovative and critical thinking, and excellent problem-solving ability

  • Demonstrated leadership and abilities to influence key decision makers to adopt his/her recommendations, and willingness to challenge conventional thinking with evidence

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Excellent project leadership skills 

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Advanced scientific or medical degree (Ph.D., Pharm. D., M.D.), and/or MBA

  • 7+ years of post-graduate research or biopharmaceutical industry or consultancy experience in vaccines

  • Deep knowledge of biopharmaceutical competitive intelligence resources, systems, and data analytics

  • Proven record in providing insightful and actionable competitive insights through innovative approaches
