Your Opportunity

Stantec's Environmental Services Practice is seeking an experienced Environmental Consultant (Geologist/Engineer/Environmental Scientist) to support our team of professionals on environmental site assessment and remediation.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers with environmental investigations, remediation, and/or permitting projects based primarily in southern California but may have opportunities to work in other parts of the state.
  • Approximately 50% office work / 50% field work.
  • Office work entails: assistance with report preparation, document review, data review and analysis, QA/QC of deliverables, participation in meetings internally and with clients/contractors.
  • Report preparation (i.e., sampling and analysis plans, work plans, health and safety plans, summary reports) includes report writing, data table and figure preparation/review, and preparation of field documentation summaries.
  • Field work entails: Coordination and conducting field work, including but not limited to, drilling oversight, environmental sampling (soil, sediment, soil vapor), trench excavation oversight and mapping, site walks.
  • Assumes the role of Health and Safety Lead on project sites (conduct daily health and safety meetings, ensure health and safety plans are being followed, communicate issues with PMs and client).
  • Coordinate pre-field tasks such as scheduling subcontractors for field work, completion of pre-field health and safety checklists, field supply inventory, lab coordination, and PM/client communication.
  • Conduct and/or oversee field work, provide daily status updates, communicate with PM and client, and close-out post-field tasks.


Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER preferred
  • Must have a background LiveScan check/fingerprinting performed.
  • Role requires attention to complex detail, excellent organization and self-discipline, and well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work with different personalities and multiple parties (i.e., clients, subcontractors, regulators) at the worksite.
  • Must be adaptable and able to re-prioritize tasks as needed, troubleshoot, and communicate issues encountered, and work collaboratively with members of team to ensure quality of deliverables and completeness and accuracy of field work.
  • Experience with water quality meters (e.g., Horiba, YSI, etc.), gas meters (e.g., MiniRAE, Landtec, etc.), and field test kits (e.g., HACH) are a plus.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required, experience with GPS, ArcGIS Desktop/Pro a plus.
  • Technical reading and writing skills of sufficient quality to review, analyze, and interpret regulations, technical guidance, and compliance documents.
  • Experience and understanding of site characterization, data gap analysis, environmental sampling techniques and methodologies, data analysis and review, and report preparation.
  • Prepare geologic maps, cross sections, and have some familiarity with USCS soil classification and bedrock.
  • Knowledge of how to read site maps and be able to locate features on a site map.
  • Be able to work independently in the field and direct subcontractors to implement field work.
  • Some projects may require lifting 50 lbs. objects to chest height.
  • Must be available to work 10-12 hr. days in the field with occasional holiday, night, and/or weekend shifts.
  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver's license.
  • Prior to employment, this position will require passing a pre-employment physical and drug screen.



Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Geologist-In-Training/Engineer-In-Training or interest/plans to obtaining professional licensure.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience



Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
