The Carroll County Health Department seeks an individual who either: (1) is licensed as a Licensed Environmental Health Specialist in the State of Maryland, or (2) possesses a bachelor’s degree including at least 30 semester credits in the biological, environmental, or physical sciences from an accredited college and desires to pursue licensure as a Licensed Environmental Health Specialist. The Carroll County Health Department has multiple positions available. Duties involve field inspection, record keeping, submission of reports, and letter writing. The first position is concerned primarily with securing and ensuring compliance with health laws and regulations in the areas of food service facilities, camps, schools and air quality. The second position is concerned with evaluating proposed development, observing and interpreting percolation tests to determine the suitability of proposed lots or site for providing safe sewage disposal systems and providing safe water supplies. These positions require good people skills, the ability to make decisions under stressful conditions, working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, and carrying field equipment. There will be some involvement in other programs of the Environmental Health Bureau as needed.
