Job Summary

The University of Utah Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship is a non-accredited 1- year fellowship open to Family Medicine physicians designed to train participants in advanced obstetrical care and cesarean section surgical skills.

The administration of the fellowship is a collaboration between Department of Family Medicine and Public Health and Community Health Centers, Inc (CHC). The position of fellow physician entails provision of patient care matching with the individual physician's level of advancement and competence.

A fellow physician's responsibilities include patient care activities within the scope of their clinical privileges commensurate with the level of training, attendance at clinical rounds and seminars, timely completion of medical records, and other responsibilities as assigned or as required of all members of the medical staff. The fellow physician is both a learner and a provider of medical care. General supervision when functioning as a learner is provided by appropriately privileged teaching faculty. Fellows are encouraged to participate in research, scholarship, and education related to their specific training.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers, and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Application Requirements:
Applicants must have completed a three year ACGME-accredited Family Medicine residency and obtain an unrestricted Utah State medical license and DEA by the beginning of the fellowship. The Family Medicine OB Fellowship does not sponsor visas.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:• Participate in safe, effective, and compassionate patient care; Initial and ongoing assessment of patient's medical, physical and psychosocial status, develop assessment and treatment plan, record notes, order test, examination, medication and therapies, arrange for discharge and after care, and perform surgery or procedures.
• Provide patient education and counseling covering health status, test results, disease processes, and discharge planning.
• Develop an understanding of ethical, socioeconomic, and medical-legal issues that affect graduate medical education, and how to apply cost containment measures in the provision of patient care.
• Participate in the educational activities of the training program, and as appropriate, assumption of responsibility for teaching and supervising residents and students, and participation in institutional orientation and education programs and other activities involving the clinical staff. Participate in research activities as directed by the fellowship director.
• Participate in institutional committees and councils to which the physician fellow is appointed or invited; and
• Perform of these duties in accordance with the established practices, procedures, and policies of the institution, and those of its programs, clinical departments and other institutions to which the house staff physician is assigned; including, among others, state licensure requirements for physicians in training.
• Clinical responsibilities shall not exceed in scope those of the supervising physician.

Minimum Qualifications
• Must obtain and maintain a valid unrestricted license to practice medicine and a controlled substance license in the State of Utah and any other states where you may be asked to practice medicine during your employment
• Must be eligible to enroll with CMS (Medicare/Medicaid)
