Groundsman
- JOB SUMMARY
- Maintains and cares for the hospital grounds. Prepares seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil and adding fertilizer or chemicals as needed. Plants seeds and bulbs, trees and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce attractive appearance. Weeds and thins flower beds, prunes trees and trims shrubbery and hedges. Mows and waters lawns and flower beds. Inspects and maintains roofs and roof drains. Does minor repairs on lawn mowers, sprinklers, etc. Paints outside fences, furniture, parking lines in garage and grounds. Maintains fuel and oil levels in hospital vehicles. Cleans and maintains floors, and replaces light bulbs in mechanical rooms, parking garage and grounds. Assists in cleaning in boilers when they are down for inspection. Supervise other members of ground crew as appropriate.
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Education
- High School graduate. Ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions. Preference will be shown to persons having had courses in horticultural subjects.
- Training and Experience
- A minimum of two years previous professional gardening experience preferred, including previous experience in the classification of Groundsman I. Must be available for call out for removal of snow and ice in the winter.
