Histotech
- DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
- The Histotechnologist / CLS implements the hospital and laboratory missions, goals and objectives. This includes the performance of anatomical pathology or histological examinations, quality control, instrument maintenance, testing validation. Testing management and other functions toward the attainment of these goals
- POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
- Experience:
- One year full time acceptable experience in a approved histology laboratory preferred.
For trainee - none.
- One year full time acceptable experience in a approved histology laboratory preferred.
- Education and Training:
- Baccalaureate or associates degree or equivalent in a biological or related science.
Two or more years of acceptable histopathology training under supervision of a Board Certified pathologist (Registry eligible).
- Baccalaureate or associates degree or equivalent in a biological or related science.
- License, Certification & Registration:
- HTHTL - Histology Certified or Certified Histotechnologist through ASCP
- Other Requirements:
- Flexibility and adaptability in emergency situations including working additional hours or shifts.
Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and alertly for extended periods of time, and under stress, to ensure against errors.
Effective communication skills, use of computer systems, listening, speaking, writing and reading.
Knowledge of HIS and LIS.
Assorted laboratory analyzers and equipment appropriate to scope of position and dependent upon current technology.
