The Laboratory Educator is responsible for coordinating, developing, and delivering education, training, competency assessment, and onboarding programs for laboratory staff, students, and new employees. This position serves as a subject-matter expert and mentor, ensuring all personnel are trained to meet regulatory, accreditation, quality, and operational requirements. The Laboratory Educator functions as a laboratory generalist and must maintain competency across all areas of the clinical laboratory while supporting departmental projects and operational needs as assigned by the Laboratory Director.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS/MT) from an accredited program.

Current certification through one of the following:

  • ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology)
  • AMT (American Medical Technologists)
  • AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts)
  • Other nationally recognized laboratory certification agencies as applicable.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency in all major laboratory disciplines.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong teaching, coaching, and mentoring abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop training materials, competency assessments, and educational programs.
  • Patience and professionalism while working with learners of varying experience levels.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and adapt to changing departmental needs.
  • Knowledge of CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and laboratory regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and computer-based learning systems.
