Laser Specialist

Summary/Objectives
As a Laser Specialist, your responsibilities are to provide consultation and treatment for hair removal and aesthetic skin rejuvenation while operating FDA-approved laser devices. Additionally, providing clients with post-treatment skin care all while under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Essential Functions

  • Evaluating and treating clients within established treatment protocols
  • Providing laser hair removal treatment to all areas of the body using Alexandrite and NdYag lasers.
  • Utilizing photo-rejuvenation technologies such as the BBL laser to treat common skin problems
  • Working with Pulse Dye & KTP Lasers to target and treat port wine stains, scars, and a variety of acquired cutaneous vascular lesions
  • Taking before and photos of potential treatment areas and uploading them to the Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Maintaining and cleaning the lasers
  • Maintaining and keeping a clean work environment at all times
  • Assisting clients with questions or concerns about treatments
  • Providing a friendly and comfortable environment for patients to be treated in
  • Speaking with patients about additional services and recommendations
  • Educating patients on ways to achieve healthy, attractive skin
  • Documenting and updating patient records
  • Referring patients to a dermatologist as needed
  • Handling patient questions and concerns professionally and courteously

Supervisory Responsibility
This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
This job operates in a clinical setting of a medical practice with routine exposure to those who may have contagious illnesses. This role routinely requires walking to and from the patient sitting area to exam rooms and frequent sitting and standing while documenting in patient’s charts. It also utilizes standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. There is frequent patient contact.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • This is a largely non-sedentary role with frequent standing and walking. This would require the ability to walk frequently on a level surface for periods of time including to and from the patient waiting area and patient exam rooms.
  • This position may require reaching above shoulder height or below the waist or lifting as required to file documents and retrieve medical supplies throughout the workday.
  • Proper lifting techniques are required up to 10 pounds.
  • Perform tasks using simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation and reach associated with assigned tasks such as operating laser equipment, paperwork, use of a computer and using, storing and cleansing medical instruments.
  • Have a sufficient ability to communicate, through sight, hearing, and/or otherwise, to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and typical hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Travel
Travel includes attending various conferences that provide Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner (NP) Program or Physician Assistant (PA) Program
  • NP or PA Certification
  • Current NP or PA license in Virginia
  • At least 1yr of Laser Experience with Laser Hair Removal
  • Laser Safety Course

Preferred Experience

  • NP/PA: 2 years’ experience
  • At least 1 year of Laser Experience with BBL, IPL and PDL lasers
  • At least 1 year of skin rejuvenation experience
  • General Dermatological knowledge or experience working in a Cosmetic/Dermatology Practice

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
None required for this position.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Must be authorized to work in the United States of America. Must acknowledge and agree to the Practice’s policies including the drug and alcohol policies.
