Essential Functions
• Essential Duties
- Oversees, directs, and supervises (with the Medical Director) the nurse practitioners of Medical Services programs with VIA
- Oversees designated regional NP's.
- Participates in organizational planning as it pertains to NPs for strategic planning and operational growth.
- Provides policy and procedure development and oversight.
- Analyzes Medical Services data to identify trends and makes recommendations for modifications of practice based on analysis.
- Assists in the orientating, forecasting, planning, evaluating, and setting of objectives for programmatic services.
- Oversees staffing levels and allocates resources as appropriate to meet programmatic needs for hospice and palliative needs.
- Assists practice manager in following up on coverage for staff turnover and PTO.
- Oversees and develops orientation for nurse practitioners for palliative and hospice with practice manager and chief medical officer.
- Ensures ongoing updates to orientation as standards and best practice guidelines change.
- Conducts monthly 1:1 meeting with designated nurse practitioners to address gaps, concerns and ensure clinical expectations are met.
- Any concerns will be directed to the chief medical officer and practice manager.
- PRN NP's will need a meeting once per year to assess engagement to continue participating in employment with HPCCR.
- Completes quarterly ride-along with nurse practitioners to ensure updates competencies and clinical standards.
- Leads, creates, and participates in nurse practitioner monthly meetings with practice manager and chief medical officer.
- Collaborates with AVP's and supervises medical directors around issues of patient care, supervision, and support of nurse practitioners.
- Participates in regular departmental meetings for updates and best practices.
- Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory clinical policies, protocols and procedure based off NC/SC nursing practice.
- Ensures NC monthly quality supervisory.
- Assists with the training, onboarding, and development of nurse practitioners.
- Monitors monthly productivity standards of nurse practitioners, including visits and billing expectations.
- Monitors and evaluates nurse practitioner competency in documenting in the EMR (HCHB)
- Monitors and ensures team dynamics in supervising NP teams, ie. Nursing SW interactions
- Ensures supervising NPs uphold HPCCR conduct and standards of practice
- Serves on committees as appropriate per CMO & COO direction.
- Serves on regional hospice and palliative care work groups as assigned.
- Provides community education on topics about palliative and end of life care.
- Participates in ongoing professional development.
- Maintains own clinical competency by having 0.2-.4 clinical time.
- Participates in on-call rotation of NP's.
- Participates in quarterly meetings with CMO & COO
- May perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 1 year related experience. Experience in direct care of patients with life limiting illnesses required. Related experience may include hospice and palliative care; family medicine; internal medicine; geriatrics, oncology; home health care; medical surgical.
