Licensed Nursing Assistant Apprentice
General Summary:
The Licensed Nursing Assistant Apprentice provides direct and indirect patient care with another Licensed Nursing Assistant under the immediate direction of the Registered Nurse.
Essential Job Functions*:
- Gives and assists with the physical care of the patient.
- Reports any changes observed in the condition or behavior of patients and unusual incidents.
- Completes required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Contributes to and participates in the delivery of the Nursing Plan of Care.
- Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, assumes responsibility for their role in emergency situations such as disasters and codes.
- Accepts and completes assignments as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Ability to respond to changing patient conditions appropriately with alertness and adaptability.
- Attends and participates in department/hospital meetings as required.
- Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
- Demonstrates hospital's stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.
- Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.
- Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Work Experience
- Previous experience in a hospital setting.
- Current Employee of Speare Memorial Hospital.
- Other Skills/Knowledge
- Motivated and able to work independently.
- Ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.
- Solid work/school history with professional recommendations.
- Computer literacy with the ability to write clearly and concisely. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Internal candidates must be in good standing, with no history of disciplinary action
- Required Coursework
- The Licensed Nursing Assistant Apprentice must enroll in a Licensed Nursing Assistant program with LNA Health Careers.
- Upon successful completion of the Licensed Nursing Assistant program, the Licensed Nursing Assistant Apprentice must successfully obtain their State of New Hampshire Licensed Nursing Assistant license.
- Completion of the Licensed Nursing Assistant orientation program and clinical skills checklist.
- Obtain Basic Life Support certification.
- Commitment
- The Licensed Nursing Assistant Apprenticeship program represents a significant financial commitment on the part of Speare Memorial Hospital.
- Employees who are selected will enroll in the next available course with successful completion expected within six months. Employees will be asked to sign a commitment to stay with the organization for two full years at 36 hours per week in any available Licensed Nursing Assistant position following the completion of the program.
- Employees will reimburse Speare Memorial Hospital a pro-rated amount of the cost of the LNA Health Careers Licensed Nursing Assistant program if:
- They are unable to successfully complete the LNA Health Careers Licensed Nursing Assistant course, or if
- They are unable to successfully obtain their State of New Hampshire Licensed Nursing Assistant license, or if
- They terminate their employment or decrease their hours before they complete their two full year commitment, or if
- They are terminated as a result of performance concerns.
