LPN
Job Summary:
The Nursing Med Surg Nurse renders nursing care and related assistance to Med Surg Department and Swing Bed patients, with patient-centered care being a primary responsibility. The LPN shall assist the RN in the implementation of the nursing process by providing direct patient care as evidenced, but not limited to, documentation, direct observation, and patient evaluations. Knows and supports the philosophy and objectives of the Med Surg and Swing Bed Departments. Works under the direction of the staff RN and is ultimately accountable and responsible to the Nurse Manager. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
Performance Expectations:
- Demonstrates critical thinking abilities and when to alert staff RN
- Demonstrates the ability to tolerate physically demanding task of moving equipment and patients utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or the patient.
- Is competent in patient interventions as evidenced by safe administration of medications, treatments, procedures, infection control, and addressing changes in status to safely care for patients
- Demonstrates the ability to document required patient encounters in the EMR. Is competent to access and utilize the EMR for the provision of patient care
- Demonstrates the ability to provide 1:1 monitoring for suicide precaution, restraint use, de-escalation and peaceful interventions
- Demonstrates the ability to assist with set up and maintenance for sterile field during procedures.
- Demonstrates insertion and removal of a peripheral IV in accordance with standards, policies and procedures within the scope of LPN.
- Demonstrates the ability to collect evidence, following all state, federal and/or hospital regulations.
- Able to safely utilize equipment including, but not limited to: Passport 2LT V/S machine, Accutor V V/S machine, Portable and wall suction devices, Roche Accu-Check, Medline SCD pumps, Patient warmer, Mindray Central Station Monitors, Telepack portable monitors, Linet beds, Cisco IP Phones, Responder Call Light System, and the Intermec Label Maker
- Is proficient of EKG strip interpretation and recognizing lethal arrhythmias after taking the Telemetry Course
- Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patients, from pediatric to adult in performance of duties and responsibilities
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate of a recognized non-online LPN program required. Must complete education on EKG Rhythm Interpretation training in orientation
Work Experience:
Medical-surgical experience preferred, not required.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Licensed LPN able to practice within the State of MS
