Management Associate - Environmental Engineering

Job Description

U. S. Steel has an opening for a Management Associate - Environmental within our Granite City Works Plant Environmental organization.

The Management Associate program is our entry level program for college graduates to help accelerate their professional development. Management Associates are provided between 12-24 months of training across multiple functional areas with work assignments designed to assist in both personal and skill-set development. The role may include rotational assignment(s) within the department. This program is designed to strengthen leadership capabilities to prepare the college graduate for advanced roles within our operations or in a number of disciplines that support our operations.

Steel's Environmental Engineers are problem-solvers and contingency planners for every environmental issue involved in the steel manufacturing process. Environmental engineers are responsible for managing and implementing the U.S. Steel Environmental Management System.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Work includes all aspects of compliance with environmental regulations, permits, corporate policies, and legal agreements.
• Assist the business unit in maintaining compliance with Air, Water, and Waste regulations, Tank Management, Emergency Plans, Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
• Monitor environmental compliance and assure corrective action of all environmental problems associated with the assigned facility.
• Conduct periodic audits of environmental facilities to assure compliance and uncover potential problems. • Assist facility operators in developing the most expeditious means of determining and correcting environmental problems. • Submit required reports to agencies.
• Interact with various Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies on permitting, compliance, and facility inspections.
• Participate on or lead multi-disciplinary teams charged with securing environmental permits. • Administer the U. S. Steel Safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the assigned facility.
• Learn and understand the steel manufacturing process.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Degrees preferred: B.S. in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
  • Must have graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university at the time of hire
  • Must have less than three years of professional work experience
  • Minimum 3.0 Overall GPA
  • Good communication and computer skills

  • The ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Leadership and strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to think and act both strategically and tactically

Base salary range $72,000 - $76,000. This base salary range is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
