Responsibilities

The Manager of Physician Billing Operations is responsible for overseeing and optimizing back-end revenue cycle processes to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely billing, collections, and revenue realization for professional services. This role plays a key part in the financial health of the organization by implementing best practices, streamlining processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This role involves establishing and enforcing billing policies, overseeing accounts receivable, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all billing-related activities. The Manager of Physician Billing Operations also works closely with insurance companies, patients, and internal teams to facilitate efficient financial operations.

The Manager of Physician Billing Operations responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maximize the efficiency of billing and follow-up processes for INTEGRIS Health's physician groups; review, analyze and interpret operational data to assess the need for process and workflow revisions and enhancements.
  • Monitor performance within all INTEGRIS Health physician billing and follow-up functions and address any issues to ensure that the activities of the billing and follow-up operations are following all regulatory guidelines and requirements. Take appropriate action to realign billing, follow-up, and denial processes to ensure we are meeting KPIs, industry best practice and benchmark standards.
  • Management and oversight of all billing, follow-up, and denial services and software vendors on a day-to-day basis. Analyze performance trends impacting billing and follow-up.
  • Manage physician billing, follow-up, and denial manager(s) on a day-to-day basis relating to billing, follow-up, credits and denials management operations.
  • Collaborate with other leaders in revenue cycle, third party vendors, Coding/Charge Capture, IT, and Revenue Integrity regarding physician billing denials task force activities.
  • Provide education, expert guidance and support to physician billing and follow-up staff.
  • Ensure that quality and productivity measures are in place, tracked and trended for individual staff performance.
  • Ensure that billing and collection functions are directionally aligned with overall INTEGRIS Health's service principles and leadership accountabilities.
  • Work with internal departments that directly affect physician billing and follow-up operations, such as Registration, Coding/Charge Capture, IT, and Patient Financial Services, to ensure an efficient Revenue Cycle.
  • Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reporting of physician billing and follow-up key performance indicators.
  • Provide input on strategy, planning, and implementation of new operations and systems.
  • Prepare and present physician billing metrics, monitoring and trending reports for review with hospital, ambulatory, and physician enterprise leadership
  • Analyze and trend statistical data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develops and revises policies and procedures for all billing and follow-up workflows.
  • Takes initiative to improve both processes and outcomes, incorporating best practices and innovation in their professional field.
  • Oversee physician billing, follow-up, and denial projects as assigned.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to revenue cycle management and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Maintains the authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in revenue cycle management, customer service, or clinic operations
  • Strong understanding of hospital and physician billing, coding systems (MS-DRG, CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS), and payer reimbursement

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, Business, Finance, or a related field

SKILLS:

  • Strategic thinker with strong financial acumen, analytical capability, and data literacy
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale change and performance improvement across complex systems
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influencing skills at all levels of the organization
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills; experience producing KPIs and actionable financial reports
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage both front-line and executive audiences
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage cross-functional projects and training programs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience supporting physician clinics and administrative operations preferred

EDUCATION:

  • Master's degree in healthcare administration, Business, Finance, or a related field

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • CRCR, CSPPM, or ACMPE preferred

SKILLS:

  • Ability to effectively interact with hospital and physician executives
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives in complex healthcare systems
