CPLC's Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs are committed to giving every child, regardless of circumstances at birth, an opportunity to succeed in school and life. Provides full-day, full-year early childhood development services to low income children, ages 0-3 years, and their families in educationally-stimulating learning environments. Migrant Head Start program provides full-day, full-year program services to children, ages 0-5 years, of migrant and seasonal farm and agriculture working families where hand-picked and row crops are prevalent.

OBJECTIVE AND POSITION SUMMARY

The Master Teacher I is responsible to support staff development and service delivery of high quality developmentally appropriate care and education for children aged 0-5 in the CPLC ECD Programs. To work as a site-based Master Teacher I as needed in assigned classrooms in the role of a floating teacher as needed to cover as needed during staff shortages and assist with assessment data, lesson planning and curriculum implementation. Works as part of a center based and or home based (if applicable) inter-disciplinary team to provide education, health and social service support to children and families as needed and requested. Follow all state and federal regulations that apply to care and education of young children, revised Head Start Program Performance Standards (issued 8/2024), Head Start Act (12/7/2007), Texas Health and Human Services Child Care Licensing, Office of Head Start Initiatives, and CPLC ECD Content Area Plans and Procedures. Actively always supervise children by sight and sound and in all environments. Maintain all health and safety regulations to create an optimum learning environment. Facilitate health practices to keep children safe in the school bus, outdoor and indoor environments.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Center-based teachers, teacher assistants and family child care providers are expected to demonstrate competency to provide effective nurturing teacher-child interactions, plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment and promote children's progress across the standards described in the Head Start Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners.

  • Other: Record observations daily for each classroom you work in or home visit you provide. When functioning as a substitute, maintain complete records on each child's educational and developmental progress, including written observations, learning plans, individual goals and learning experience. Lastly, use data to make data informed decisions for learning experiences.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education/Background:

  • Minimum qualifications for the Master Teacher I position are an associate's degree, required, or a bachelor's degree, preferred.
  • Child Development or Early Childhood Education (ECE) or coursework in Early Childhood Education or related field and six-month experience in teaching preschool aged children is required. Experience teaching preschool and/ or infant/toddler age children is highly preferred.
  • Applicant must have basic keyboard skills and be able to use computer, computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe) and web-based systems.
  • Must pass a criminal background check to include a Child Abuse and Neglect register check and obtain a level one fingerprint clearance per Office of Head Start and state licensing requirements.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical, TB test or Chest x- ray, and TDAP vaccination.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing and proof of insurance in the state where resides.
  • Have First Aid and CPR certified or obtain certification within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Must obtain Food Handler's card upon hire.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.


Other Requirements:

  • Certification as a Classroom Assessment Observation System (CLASS) reliable observer, or training in Teaching Strategies Creative curriculum's and/or Inter-rater reliable in Teaching Strategies Gold, Center of Social & Emotional Foundation Early Learning Center (CSEFEL) Positive Behavior Support, Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS), Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS), Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) is preferred.
  • Employee will be expected to participate in continuous learning, competency building and maintenance of competency skills.
  • Obtaining and documentation of ongoing professional development, as identified in the following regulations, State Childcare Licensing boards, Head Start Act (12/7/07) and Head Start Program Performance Standards (issued 9/1/16) is required on an annual basis.
  • Applicant must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
