Medical Billing Specialist
Billing Specialists will be responsible for completing patient financial services tasks such as billing and/or accounts receivable, follow-up with payers and maintaining quality and productivity requirements as outlined in the position performance expectations. Billing Specialists will analyze and research unpaid claims, and assist in the resolution of denials, appeals, partial payments, and payment variances. Billing Specialists are expected to comply with all HIPAA rules and regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* Maintains working knowledge of regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures for all insurance companies that pertain to billing physician and non-physician practitioners CPT codes. * Maintain working knowledge of proper filing of claims and refiling denied claims based on insurance company guidelines.* Ability to interpret Explanation of Benefits and follow-up on denied claims with all insurance companies.* Working knowledge of hospital systems to gather patient information.* Post deposits and charges accurately and timely.* Communicate with patients, patients' representative and insurance companies to discuss account information as well as follow-up on outstanding claims.* Assist with working collections on delinquent patient payments.* Participate in education sessions specific to corporate needs or job duties - locally or remotely, as needed.* Provide training to other employees - locally or remotely, as needed.* Performs other job-related duties as required by management.
REQUIREMENTS:* Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology.* Knowledge of insurance and federal billing guidelines.* Knowledge of insurance verification, referral and pre-certification process.* Strong working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.* Ability to research coding related issues.* Ability to plan and implement work activities with minimum supervision and to make decisions with independent judgment.* Ability to read and interpret physician notes.* Good analytical skills and exhibits attention to detail.* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clinicians and co-workers.* Ability to express ideas and information orally and in writing.* Creative, well-organized and eager to work in a rapidly changing company.* Good mathematical skills.* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word).* High school diploma/GED required.
PREFERRED:* Associates Degree or 2+ years of billing/collections experience in multi-specialty physician office orhospital setting
** Burn and/or surgical coding experience preferred!! **
