Medical Director - Transfusion Medicine
Under the direction of the Vice President Transfusion Medicine (TM) Medical Director at Versiti this position will oversee blood center related TM responsibilities at Versiti WI as well as provide clinical care at Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin. This position will also have leadership of the Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) as Medical Director at Versiti. This physician will hold an academic appointment at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in the Department of Pathology. Our Versiti transfusion program partners with MCW in the oversight of a TM fellowship program. Versiti is an affiliation of blood centers in Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio, including the Versiti Blood Research Institute which is in the Milwaukee area. The annual number of blood donations across Versiti is in excess of 600,000.
Responsibilities for this position:
This physician will support and assist with medical direction, including compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and accreditation agencies at Versiti affiliated hospitals. As Medical Director for the Versiti Wisconsin IRL, provide clinical case review and consultation, oversight of IRL laboratory staff technical duties and working with Versiti laboratory management to provide education and skill advancement. Furthermore, the physician will participate in clinical and/or applied research at Versiti, or partner hospitals, and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Finally, this physician will maintain a high level of community involvement and public relations outreach efforts and demonstrate Versiti core values. * M.D. or D.O. Degree; current or eligible for medial licenses in IL, WI, IN, MI and OH.
* Board certified in clinical pathology, IM , or pediatrics
* Board certified/board eligible in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine (American Board of Pathology - ABP)
- Minimum 5 years clinical experience desired
- Active controlled substances and Federal DEA licenses may be required
