• Join our growing team of 2 Medical Physicists, 4 Medical Dosimetrists, 4 Radiation Oncologists, 2 Advanced Practice Clinicians, 12 Radiation Therapist and 7 Registered Nurses who care for an average of 60-80 patients a day.
• The Radiation Oncology Department at ThedaCare is located within a state-of the-art, award-winning comprehensive cancer center in Appleton, WI.

• ABR certification (or equivalent) in Therapeutic Medical Physics is required.
Support for professional development and maintenance of certification is
available.
• Candidates with Cyberknife stereotactic experience, HDR brachytherapy
experience, and the ability to serve as system administrator for ARIA and
Eclipse treatment planning applications are highly desirable.

Job Description:

The Medical Physicist develops, implements, and oversees the programs and procedures needed for the therapeutic use of radiation in the radiation oncology department by working within the guidelines and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Food and Drug Administration, American College of Radiology, American Association of Physicists in Medicine, and the State of Wisconsin.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Assists the radiation oncologist and follows procedures for handling, storage, and inventory of radioactive sources in compliance with state requirements.

2. Provides consultation to the radiation oncologists in initial planning, simulation, and techniques of external radiotherapy.

3. Applies crucial thinking to assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a quality assurance program for radiation-producing equipment and sources. Assists in the creation of individualized treatment plans for the delivery of radiation therapy.

4. Utilizes evidence-based practice to anticipate expected patient outcomes that support the prescription delivery.

5. Reviews patient records on a weekly basis and at the end of treatment to monitor the treatment process. Provides consultation to solve diverse problems arising in specific patient treatment situations.

6. Is responsible for the radiation quality control program, record keeping and disposal of radioactive materials, annual system program audits, commissioning, verification, and data management of treatment planning. Exemplifies quality care by anticipating and intervening in area of patient safety in compliance with the regulations and guidelines of the State of Wisconsin, NRC, FDA, AAPM, and The Joint Commission.

7. Develops, educates, and revises radiation safety policies and procedures at the department and system levels.

8. Demonstrates leadership skills by providing expertise in the field of radiation and coordinating daily operational activities. Can be flexible and adapt to the rapidly changing needs of the patients, department, and technology.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Master's degree in medical physics

2. ABR board certification, or eligible

3. Experience as required for board eligibility

4. Must achieve ABR within two years

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Stereotactic Radiotherapy experience (Cyberknife preferred)

2.HDR brachytherapy experience (Nucletron preferred)

3.Experience with Varian/Eclipse/ARIA platform preferred.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:

1. Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software.

2. Excellent organization, interpersonal and communication skills.

3. Ability to analyze information and situations, prioritize tasks, develop solutions, and make recommendations.

4. Ability to use good judgment and work independently, with little supervision, and in a team setting.

5. The flexibility to adapt to an ever-changing fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands:

1 Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance.

2. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

1. Normally works in climate-controlled office environment

2. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents.
