Position Summary:

The NYPC invites applications for a Medical Physicist Assistant (MPA) position in the field of proton therapy. Under the direct supervision and instruction of licensed medical physicists, the successful candidate will work in the Medical Physics team to provide the preparation, measurements, data analysis, and record-keeping assistance in quality assurance (QA) of proton therapy and imaging equipment. The MPA will also work with the clinical team to support proton planning, imaging registration, motion management, in-vivo dosimetry, and treatment evaluation. This supporting role is critical to the safe and efficient operation of the proton therapy center.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient-specific radiation measurements and analysis
  • Perform quality assurance tests of proton and x-ray beam characteristics
  • Test the mechanical characteristics of therapy and imaging equipment
  • Participate in research and clinical projects in collaboration with the medical physicist and physicians
  • Comply with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
  • Other clinical and research supports as needed



Qualifications:

  • M.S or Ph.D. degree in medical physics, physics, engineering, applied science, or related fields
  • Strong hands-on skills such as setting up, using, and tearing down equipment
  • Programming and scripting skills preferred
  • Must possess strong technical problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and prioritize workflow
  • Ability to work flexible hours as shift work is expected
  • Must pass the department credentialing exam in each area of work after receiving training

The salary range and/or hourly rate displayed is a determination of base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
