- Job Summary
- Performs a variety of laboratory tests, many of which are complex, involve numerous steps and techniques, and require use of professional judgement. Tests may be performed in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood Bank, urinalysis, and Nuclear Medicine. Professional application of the principles, theories and techniques of medical technology are used to produce reliable test results, which aid the physician in diagnosis and treatment.
- Job Specifications
- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Two years college in the area of science and math. One year internship in an approved hospital MLT program; must be registered or eligible for registration or equivalent.
- JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must be able to perform routine analysis, which requires a definite network of stops and variables. Must have a background knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships. Must be able to recognize problems and communicate these to their supervisor. Must be able to evaluate and operate all equipment in assigned area of work. Must be able to work independently. Annually, an assessment of competency shall be performed to verify the employee's abilities with procedures and equipment. This documentation shall become a part of the employee's personnel file. The patient population must be considered when assessing job knowledge required from the employee.

- Ability to understand instructions, reason, and make judgements.
- Performs duties in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision.
- Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
