MRI Technologist

Job Summary: Under the broad direction of the Radiologist and the Chief Technologist the MR Technologist will perform MR scanning examinations on selective portions of the anatomy as requested by the clinician. The MR Technologist is expected to perform a variety of procedures with the knowledge and ability. Must be able to work scheduled and "On-Call" hours if necessary.

Job Duties:

  1. Performs all MRI scans. Demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning, technique selection, administration of contrast media, application of immobilization and radiation protection devices according to department policy and procedures.
  2. Receives consultation request, checking for special instructions from the requesting physician. Consults with the Radiologist as necessary. Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification and introduces self. Completely explains examination procedure to the patient and his/her family if present. Reviews all MRI safety procedures with patients, family, and non-MRI associates.
  3. Updates patient examination history file, records unusual conditions/limitations, documents examination time, and technique factors, contrast media injections. Completes examination, consultation, and billing procedures as required. Performs other paperwork as required.
  4. Maintains necessary inventory of supplies for assigned room or work station, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items.


Qualifications:

  • Education
    • Graduate of AMA accredited Radiology program or equivalent.
  • Certification/Licensure (including annual requirements)
    • Eligible for, or possession of, a valid American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification.
  • Experience (Years/Type)
    • One to three years experience preferred.
  • Equipment (Experience and/or Training)
    • Diagnostic equipment and MRI equipment.
  • Specialized Training
    • 80 hours of MRI training.
  • Computer Skills (Hardware & Software)
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office or windows based system
  • Other Skills and Competencies
    • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Diplomacy, tact, and a positive approach to problem solving are required to be successful.
    • Organizational skills are a must.
    • Fosters a teamwork environment.
    • Must be able to communicate with patients, customers, other departments, and staff in an articulate manner.
    • Must be able to explain technical aspects of duties performed to supervisor and coworkers.
