MRI Technologist

Title: MRI Technologist

Location: Hooper Avenue, NJ 08755

Duration: 12 Months to Long-Term

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Description:

  • Knowledge of superconducting magnets and their physics in relation to human anatomy and medical imaging.
  • Knowledge of MRI safety in a magnetic environment for patients, visitors, staff, and equipment.
  • Specialized knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, particularly soft tissues and blood vessels.
  • Knowledge of radio-frequency (RF) surface coils required for different anatomical areas.
  • Knowledge of contrast media, power injectors, and PACS.
  • May perform basic MRI safety program duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current unrestricted Radiologic Technologist license.
  • ARRT(R) Certification.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Minimum 3 years MRI experience preferred.

Required Experience:

  • MRI safety screening and protocols.
  • Contrast-enhanced MRI studies.
  • Knowledge of RF coils and MRI equipment.
  • Experience with power injectors and contrast media.

Required Skills:

  • Perform routine and advanced MRI examinations.
  • Screen patients for MRI safety.
  • Position patients and operate MRI equipment.
  • Administer contrast agents when indicated.
  • Maintain MRI safety standards and documentation.
  • Evaluate image quality prior to submission to radiologist

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the patient for radiographic or sonographic procedures by assessing patient's needs and providing pretest patient education, explaining procedures and answering questions.
  • Provide reassurance and support to patient throughout procedure; assure understanding of discharge instructions before patient leaves care area.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging examinations according to the service's procedures.
  • Locate and record internal elements of the body, including blood vessels and organs.
  • Monitor the patient for potentially dangerous physical and emotional changes during the examination; recognize abnormal changes and immediately notify the physician.
  • Record pharmaceutical doses accurately (Technologists)
  • Evaluate test results for clarity and accuracy; take corrective action where appropriate.
  • Log data into patient information systems, and update file systems for tests performed.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and workspace per standard operating procedure.
  • Recognize equipment malfunctions and readjust equipment or refer for repair.
  • Prepare digital images for interpretation by the radiologist.
  • Electronic images and reports are transmitted digitally via Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS); this eliminates the need to manually file, retrieve, or transport films.
  • Practice accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
  • Practice safety measures in radiography, radiation safety, infection control and environment of care.
  • Apply the profession's code of ethics in all aspects of practice.
  • Communicate with customers (e.g., veterans, family members, and the general public), co-workers and supervisors in a courteous, tactful, friendly and cooperative manner.
  • Adhere to all facility and service-level policies and procedures.
  • Technologists follow all medical center policies including infection control policies.
  • Technologists respond to inquiries related to patient care in a timely manner.
