A Nuclear Med Tech performs various technical procedures using radionuclides and imaging devices for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in all patient populations. Requires independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative in the performance of these duties.
NUCLEAR MED TECH JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and/or experience: Satisfactory completion of Nuclear Medicine program. Must have current licensure by either ARRT or NMTCB. Must be CPR certified. Must maintain the Continuing Education standards as set forth by the ARRT or NMTCB for certified technologists. One to two years experience in an active Nuclear Medicine department is preferred.
Knowledge: Requires knowledge of all diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures. Requires knowledge of pharmaceuticals used in nuclear medicine procedures. Requires knowledge of gamma camera and radiation measurement device operation. Requires knowledge of Tennessee Division of Radiologic Health's rules and regulations regarding safe use and disposal of radioactive materials.
Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills. Demonstrates selfdirection in improving and acquiring the skills and abilities necessary to enhance job performance. Requires ability to organize patient workflow. Requires the skills to perform venipuncture. Must be able to teach Nuclear Medicine students as part of clinical training site. May require further training in PET/CT. Must be able to prepare and administer radioactive chemical compounds. Must be able to perform patient imaging procedures using sophisticated radiation detecting instrumentation. Must be able to accomplish computer processing and image enhancement and provide images, data analysis and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation. Must be able to analyze biologic specimens in the laboratory. Must be able to monitor the patient's physical condition during the course of the procedure. Must be able to work independently to apply complex information and knowledge to maximize individual patient diagnostics.
Abilities: Must be able to interact with patients and staff in a courteous, professional manner. Be able to meet or exceed patient satisfaction at all times. Expected to demonstrate proper telephone etiquette and strong attention to detail. Comfortable learning and working with new computer systems. Must be able to work independently.
