Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Under the general direction and supervision of the Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist and/or Assistant Director of Radiology, performs a variety of duties required to prepare patients and conduct diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine examinations.• Updates, logs, and performs Quality Control surveys for contamination of daily shipments of stock radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with NRC regulations.
• Prepares patient doses, identifies, verifies, and documents all radiopharmaceuticals.
• Performs Quality Control assessments on camera systems, calibration instruments, and radiopharmaceuticals.
• Interviews patients, explains procedures, and administers prescribed radiopharmaceuticals following appropriate two identifier process.
• Maintains safety standards and records necessary information of usage and disposal of radioactive media in compliance with Nuclear Regulatory requirements.
• Maintains accreditation status with ACR.
• Places daily order for radiopharmaceuticals.
• Performs Cardiac SPECT studies in conjunction with the Cardiology Department and prepares the digital data for review by the radiologist and cardiologist.
• Upon completion of patient studies, sends images to PACS confirming study with all appropriate labels with associated comments in the RIS System.
• Performs cardiac gated computer analysis on digital images.
• Completes general, unit, department specific competencies including age specific competencies and dysrhythmia course.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements: • Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine tests and procedures.
• Ability to interact and effectively communicate with patients, staff, and hospital personnel.
• Operating knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment, PACS, and RIS.
• Ability to make technical decisions to obtain the most accurate information for diagnosis.
• Knowledge of bloodborne pathogens and universal precautions.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
• Ability to lift and pull patients, push stretchers, and able to stand and walk.
• Knowledge of radiation protection and cardiac rhythm interpretations.

Graduate of accredited Nuclear Medicine school.
Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the NMTCB or ARRT.
