Job Requirements
The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) to join a multidisciplinary team responsible for the care of complex trauma patients.
Working at the Shock Trauma Center, you will become a vital part of a high-acuity trauma team that provides continuity of care for patients from admission through discharge and post-discharge follow-up. The ACNP collaborates closely with nurses, therapists, residents, fellows, attending physicians, and students to ensure safe, timely, and evidence-based care for patients with a wide spectrum of traumatic injuries and complex medical comorbidities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive assessments, develop and implement treatment plans for critically ill and injured trauma patients
- Manage patients in high-acuity settings including ICU, step-down, and acute care units
- Perform procedures within scope of practice (e.g., central line placement, arterial lines, chest tubes, etc., based on competency)
- Participate in trauma resuscitations and rapid response situations
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
- Provide patient and family education and support throughout the continuum of care
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
Work Experience
- Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program
- Current certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP-BC or AGACNP-BC)
- Active Maryland RN and APRN licensure (or eligibility for licensure)
- DEA certification (or eligibility)
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in acute care, critical care, or trauma setting preferred
- Strong clinical decision-making skills in high-pressure environments
- Proficiency in managing critically ill patients with complex conditions
- Experience with bedside procedures and invasive monitoring preferred
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills within interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment
