Blake 11 is a 24 bed, locked, inpatient psychiatric unit. The inpatient service provides diagnostic evaluations, brief inpatient treatment, and care to an adult population of patients with primary psychiatric disorders. Also, as a tertiary health care provider, the service accepts referrals for diagnostically complex or treatment resistant patients. Patients with concomitant medical and neurological disorders and a primary psychiatric disorder are also treated.
Nurse Practitioners provide supportive and empathic emotional care, behavioral management, medication management and education to our patients. As a medical psychiatric unit, the Nurse Practitioner will assess and respond to a wide range of medical issues and events, independent from or concurrent to a psychiatric illness. Our mission is abatement of acute symptoms, through evaluation and appropriate disposition, generally after a 10-day stay.
Per Diem Requirement: Minimum-1-8hr shift per week
Skills and Experience:
• Minimum 2 years psychiatric NP experience, required
• Inpatient psychiatric, med/surgical or emergency department experience, strongly preferred
Education/Degree:
• Master's Degree Nursing required
Licensure, Certifications, or Registration
• Nurse Practitioner certification
Job Summary
Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. This NP position specifically works in a psychiatric setting, providing psychiatric assessments and establishing comprehensive plans that address a broad range of concerns for patients with psychiatric disorders. May perform additional duties, such as precepting small group of learners.
Essential Functions
Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to psychiatric patients.
Complete biopsychosocial and psychopharmalogical evaluations on patients.
Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.

Education

Experience
2 years of experience as a psychiatric nurse practitioner required

- Solid understanding of psychiatric clinical practices.
- Skilled in conducting psychiatric assessments/evaluations.

- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
