Nurse Practitioner-Neurology
The Nurse Practitioner shall be licensed in the State of Mississippi and must practice according to a Board approved protocol which has mutual agreement of and by a Mississippi licensed physician and the approval by the Board of Trustees. He/She is directly accountable to the Medical Director of Neuro Hospitalist.
- Primary duty is continuity of clinical care on all admitted Neurology and Acute care stroke patients.
- Provide integrated stroke care team initiation and follow up care on rounds for the hospitalized patients.
- Order and supervise diagnostic tests after collaboration with physician.
- Provide appropriate education to both patient and family members.
- Order and review lab, radiology and other diagnostic tests.
- Provide direct patient care including assessment, diagnosis, and formulation of treatment plan.
- Perform physical exams and record patient history including dictation.
- Document exam findings in progress notes along with treatment plan when appropriate.
- Write admission orders after collaboration with physician.
- Make referrals to appropriate ancillary services.
- Confers with physician(s) concerning assigned patients.
- Keep physician(s) informed, as is appropriate, of needs and problems related to patient care.
- Complies with established standards.
- Utilize supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel.
- Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patient information, and abide by established communications code.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
- Must attend Stroke Program Team Meetings and participate in providing input and received feedback.
- Must document in the electronic medical record all notes and route 10 percent or 20 charts every month to the sponsoring provider.
- Responds to code strokes whenever on duty. Performs and documents the NIHSS and VAN Scores, ask for a tele stroke if needed and places orders into the electronic medical record to facilitate the fastest treatment as possible.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills: Master Degree in Nursing with Family Practice focus required. ACLS preferred.
Work Experience: Previous two years of work experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner preferred.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Licensed as an APRN by MS State Board of Nursing.
- Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification required.
Certifications
- ACLS, BLS NIHSS, ENLS certificates required within 90 days of hire.
