Physician Assistant
The Surgical PA provides patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, collaborating closely with specific surgeons on the surgical continuum from pre-op to intra-op to post-op . This role requires advanced clinical skills, surgical assistance experience, and a strong commitment to patient safety and surgical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Pre-operative care: Conduct history and physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic/lab tests, and develop individualized care plans
- Surgical assistance: First-assist in open-heart and cardiac surgical procedures in the operating room under direct surgeon supervision
- Procedural skills: Perform surgical and clinic-based procedures under direct or indirect supervision
- Inpatient management: Round on patients, assist in wound care, provide consultations, and manage postoperative care
- Prescribing: Write prescriptions, including controlled substances, per privileges and regulations
- On-call coverage: Provide high-level decision-making coverage on weekdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
- Interdisciplinary collaboration: Work with staff, patients, and families to ensure quality care across the continuum
Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies
- Certifications: National PA Certification (NCCPA), Tennessee PA License (active), DEA License, BLS and ACLS certifications
- Experience: Minimum 5 years as an Advanced Practice Provider; experience in vein harvesting preferred
- Credentials: Must meet all medical staff credentialing and privileges requirements
- Compliance: Maintain licensure and complete required CEU/CME requirements
