Nursing Assistant
Position Summary:
Assists professional nursing staff by performing specific resident care tasks, within the scope of practice from Certified Nursing Assistant.
Qualifications:
A. Education:High school graduate or equivalent required upon hire or transfer to the department. The Nursing Assistant will be listed with the Texas Department of Health Nurse Aid Registry required.
B. Training and Experience:
1. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or transfer to the department required.
2. Successful completion of general and nursing orientation within three (3) months of hire.
3. Completion of the following competencies within three (3) months of hire or transfer to the department:
• Unit orientation
• Unit safety
• Attendance requirements
• Code Blue participation
• Safe, effective patient care: patient identification, vital signs, inputs/outputs, personal care, bed- making, patient transfer and
reporting
• Appropriate and timely documentation
• Effective time management, organizational and prioritization skills
• Technical skills including equipment use
• Body substance isolation
• Age specific care
• Professional communication
• Restraint Training
• Practice safe handling for patients receiving chemotherapy
Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A. Ability to perform:
1. Heavy lifting
2. Sustained standing and walking
3. Work under stress
4. Varied work hours and shifts
B. May encounter exposure to infectious diseases.
