- JOB SUMMARY
- The Nursing Unit Secretary provides a vital function to the work flow of a patient care unit in the duties of answering and handling phone calls, completing work and paper processes, ordering supplies, finding and collecting equipment and supplies, assisting the unit director in duties that relate to the overall functioning of the unit, providing or collecting data, completing schedules as directed, and assisting visitors, families or others who come to the patient care area. Reports to the Director or Manager of each area. Must be familiar with hospital systems.
- JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required. Each unit will designate competencies or education programs required.
- Job Knowledge and Skills:
- Able to communicate verbally and in writing. Must be proficient in the operation of computers and computer programs. Must be able to use a variety of communication devices such as phones, cell phones, paging systems. Must be able to use office equipment normally found in the clinical areas. Must know names of medical equipment and where located. Must be familiar with the functioning of other departments to process orders and patient care needs.
