Job Title: Occupational Therapist

Location: Fort Sam Houston, TX 78234

Duration: Long Term

Shift:  06:30AM - 15:00PM & 06:30AM – 17:00PM

Hours/Week:  40Hours/week

Job Responsibilities:

• Review medical history, conduct initial assessments, and analyze physical/mental abilities to set realistic rehabilitation goals.
• Design and conduct therapeutic, customized programs to improve daily functioning, including fine motor skills, cognitive exercises, and social skills.
• Evaluate homes or workplaces for accessibility and recommend changes, such as installing grab bars or rearranging workspaces for better ergonomics.
• Recommend, design, or train patients and caregivers to use assistive technology and equipment, including splints, braces, and specialized tools.
• Record patient progress, evaluate treatment efficacy, and update care plans to meet goals or plan for discharge.
• Educate families and caregivers on care strategies and advocate patient needs.
• Augment or supplement the staffing at Brooke Army Medical Center; military treatment facilities (MTFs) to provide services that contribute to a stable workforce providing quality services due to surges in workload, deployments, and civilian personnel vacancies.
• Participate in the rounds and other education and planning meetings of the Burn Center.
• Evaluate and treat outpatients/inpatients within the Burn Clinic, Burn Intensive Care Unit and Burn MedSurg/Stepdown Unit.
• Work settings will include both inpatient and outpatient therapy at the discretion of the Chief, Burn Rehabilitation, or his/her designated government representative. The setting will be determined by mission need.
• Participate in clinical research.
• Provide instructional information to visiting military and civilian students, residents and staff personnel in burn care management.

Requirements:

• Occupational Therapist License
• Basic Life Support Certification.
