Job Summary: Health science specialist who assures the safe and appropriate use of drugs in patients through the application of specialized knowledge and functions in patient care as related in the care of cancer, hematology, and other disciplines and uses judgment in the collection and interpretation of pharmacologic data, patient-specific involvement, and direct interprofessional interactions. The role of Oncology Pharmacy Specialist is patient-oriented, disease-oriented, drug-oriented and has, in practice, an interdisciplinary orientation. The Oncology Pharmacy Specialist is involved with the care of cancer patients at all phases of their treatment. Minimum Requirements: Graduate of an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy Program with current licensure as a pharmacist in North Carolina. Preferably have completed an ASHP accredited residency program in Oncology or other advanced training/certifications such as Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist. Must have the ability to use the Pharmacy computer system at an acceptable level after having been instructed during the training period. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the disease and age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their therapy and to provide the pharmaceutical care needed.
