OR Tech/Surgical Tech- 13 week Contract

Procare USA partners with registered nurses and allied health professionals to place them in rewarding travel contracts, per diem shifts, and permanent positions while supporting improved patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating room prior to procedures, including setting up sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain the sterile field and anticipate surgeon needs by passing instruments and supplies during procedures.
  • Perform surgical counts (sponges, needles, instruments) and document counts according to facility policy.
  • Assist with patient positioning, draping, and transfer to and from the operating table.
  • Handle and label surgical specimens and ensure proper chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Operate and troubleshoot basic OR equipment (suction, electrosurgical units, scopes) and notify appropriate personnel for advanced issues.
  • Decontaminate, clean, and prepare instruments and equipment for sterilization after procedures.
  • Perform room turnover efficiently to support surgical schedules and minimize delays.
  • Adhere to infection control, safety, and facility policies and participate in time-out and other safety checks.
  • Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other perioperative team members.

Required skills

  • Proficient knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile technique, and operating room procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain focus during lengthy procedures.
  • Excellent verbal communication and teamwork skills in high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to anticipate procedural needs and act proactively to support the surgical team.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for common OR equipment and devices.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and assist with patient transfers.
  • Familiarity with infection prevention standards and documentation requirements.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent education.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred; on-the-job experience may be accepted where allowed.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
  • Minimum 1 year of operating room experience preferred; experience with specialty cases (orthopedics, general, neuro, etc.) is a plus.
  • Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and verification of required immunizations.
  • Current state licensure or registration if required by the placement location.
