Peer/Family Support Partner

What You Will Be Doing
Working as a Peer/Family Support Partner you will be supporting individuals with a mental health or a co-occurring mental health/substance use disorder who are homeless or living in supportive housing. Additionally, the candidate will lead group activities and discussions as well as enter data into a secure electronic mental health record. The candidate will join a team of recovery minded staff to develop and implement a seamless system for rapid re-housing and stabilization services by providing peer-centered services, relationship-based support services and resource connections. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a variety of settings and have basic computer skills as well as the willingness and capacity to share personal recovery experiences and the ability to encourage others. All applicants must be able to demonstrate their experience in relationship to the types of guidance, support and mentoring activities they will provide and be generally recognized and accepted to peers.

What We Require
High School diploma or GED with at least two years of work experience is required. Experience in community mental health or a transitional housing setting is preferred. Peer Support Specialist Certificate or Recovery Coach Professional, or the ability to obtain the certificate(s).

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Physical Efforts - Job demands include prolonged sitting and standing as appropriate. May occasionally require light lifting up to 25 pounds, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or bending as appropriate. Requires coordination of hands and/or eye/hand/foot.

Working Conditions - Office environment with noise from computers, copy machine, and telephones. Use of computer screen for periods in excess of 30 minutes at a time. Possible eyestrain from extended periods of viewing computer screen. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and parasites. Travel throughout the Kalamazoo area is required.
