Medical Assistant engages in a collaborative process with members of a multidisciplinary team which may include a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Navigator, Care Coordinator RN, Social Worker, Pharmacist, Dietician, MA Lead, and Clinic Manager. The team assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates options and services to meet a patient's health needs through communication and utilization of available resources to promote quality, cost effective outcomes. The Medical Assistant provides quality nursing care to patients and assists the Nurse Practitioners in the clinical setting.

The Medical Assistant collaborates with the Nurse Practitioners and other members of the care team and supports the patient by providing routine care, patient education, and self - management support. Functions in a direct patient care role and is compliant with Regulatory and Quality Improvement activities (HIPAA, OSHA, Disease Management, etc.)

Primary Responsibilities:

As part of a multi - disciplinary care coordination team:

  • Address the total patient, inclusive of medical, psychosocial, behavioral, cultural, and spiritual needs
  • Involve the individual patient and caregiver, as appropriate, in decision making
  • Facilitate communication and coordination among members of the care team
  • Provide patient care to include: patient assessment prior to physician's / nurse practitioner's examination, serve as patient advocate / liaison by answering questions related to care and treatment, as appropriate, provide patient education and self - management support, and administer flu vaccinations as needed
  • Escort patient to exam room
  • Participate in team "huddles" and ensure EMR is prepared for the clinic visit
  • Triage phone calls to the appropriate department and enter the call into the EMR as a Telephone Encounter. After the call has been addressed, communicate with the patient and document in the Telephone Encounter
  • Maintain cleanliness of the patient care areas (exam rooms)
  • Ensure exam rooms are stocked at all times
  • Clean and disinfect instruments according to policy
  • Perform clinic tasks as directed by Clinic Manager
  • Assist Clinic Manager with the ordering and receiving of medical supplies and medications
  • Work closely with the Clinic Manager and Quality Manager to create and implement new workflows

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED or higher
  • Current, unrestricted Medical Assistant certification
  • Current CPR certification
  • 1+ years of clinic experience
  • Experience with OSHA / HIPAA compliance
  • Basic proficiency with computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system applications
  • Ability to work Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm

Preferred Qualifications:

  • EMR training
  • Vaccine administering

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to bend and sit for long periods
