Phlebotomist Supervisor
The Phlebotomist Supervisor is responsible for supervising phlebotomy staff while performing blood collection, specimen processing, and transport duties. This role ensures high-quality specimen handling and supports laboratory operations through limited clerical tasks and coordination with laboratory and clinical teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and support phlebotomy staff, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Draw and process blood specimens in accordance with established protocols.
- Transport laboratory specimens to and from the laboratory, physicians, and nursing departments.
- Assist in the processing of clinic, outreach, and reference laboratory specimens under the supervision of a laboratory assistant, senior laboratory assistant, or technical staff member.
- Perform limited clerical duties related to specimen handling, documentation, and workflow coordination.
- Maintain compliance with safety, infection control, and confidentiality standards
- Communicate effectively with the Lab Manager and Laboratory Director regarding staffing, workflow, and quality issues
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Phlebotomy Certification required (e.g., CPT, ASCP, or equivalent)
- Minimum of 5 years of phlebotomy experience required
- Minimum of 2 years supervisory or leadership experience required
- On-call rotation required
- Strong knowledge of specimen collection, processing, and transport procedures
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Work Environment:
Clinical and laboratory settings with regular interaction with patients, healthcare providers, and laboratory personnel.
